Kid Rock Opens a New Chapter With “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)”
Kid Rock is putting his faith front and center with a new song that serves as the first glimpse of his upcoming Christian album, Halfway To Jesus.
The singer, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, recently announced the release of “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” a deeply personal song inspired by his relationship with Jesus Christ and his own life experiences.
According to Kid Rock, the song came to him unexpectedly. He said he woke up around 2 a.m. one morning and, within about half an hour, had written the track.

The song reflects on the different stages of his life, the mistakes he has made, and the changes he says came after finding his faith. Its title is connected to the biblical verse James 1:17, which speaks about every good and perfect gift coming from above.
Kid Rock has also explained why the scripture holds particular significance for him. His middle name is James, while his birthday is January 17, making the verse especially meaningful to him.
From One Christian Song to a Full Album
This new musical direction follows Kid Rock’s earlier Christian reinterpretation of Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t.” He performed his version during the Turning Point USA alternate Super Bowl halftime event, adding a new verse that gave the song a faith-centered message.
The studio recording later reached No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart, while also appearing on the Hot Country Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts.
That experience encouraged Kid Rock to continue writing music centered on his faith.
“I started writing more songs,” he explained, describing his desire to create music that celebrates Jesus while drawing from the rock, country, and hip-hop styles that have shaped his career.
“Halfway To Jesus” Arrives October 17
Kid Rock has now confirmed that these songs will become part of a full-length Christian project titled Halfway To Jesus, scheduled for release on October 17.
The album artwork features Kid Rock climbing a mountain toward a cross, with a depiction of the devil at the bottom. The imagery reflects the spiritual journey that serves as a central theme of the project.
A music video for “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” was also announced, with Kid Rock teasing the appearance of people who have played an important role in the song and the upcoming album.
For Kid Rock, the project represents a new musical chapter—one that combines his familiar genre-blending style with openly expressed Christian faith.
As he told fans while announcing the song, “if it’s real, you’ll feel it.”
Rock on and God bless.
