George Strait & Miranda Lambert Join Forces for Unforgettable Performance of ‘How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls’ and ‘Run’!
|On June 7th, 2014, George Strait made history with his final tour performance at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, before an incredible crowd of over 104,000 fans—the largest-ever audience for a single show in the U.S.
During this unforgettable night, Miranda Lambert joined George on stage for two standout duets: “How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls” and “Run.” These powerful moments became some of the most talked-about highlights of the evening.
What many may not know is that Miranda’s admiration for George goes far beyond the stage. Their connection runs deep, and their bond was only strengthened by a personal, touching story.
The video has received glowing comments from fans around the world. One viewer shared, “The energy between them was off the charts. ‘Run’ sounded studio perfect. They really caught lightning in a bottle with that duet.” Another added, “I’ll never get tired of hearing George Strait & Miranda Lambert sing this song. How ‘bout them cowgirls?”
But what makes Miranda’s admiration for George so special?
“When I was on tour with George, I was 22, and my dad was on the road with us. I had gotten a tattoo, and it really upset my dad. He was furious, and we didn’t talk for a while.”
Miranda and her dad rode the same bus during the tour, and to avoid further tension, she had to cover up her tattoo for two weeks. But George, a father who understands the importance of family, wanted to ease the situation. Having endured his own loss—the tragic death of his daughter Jennifer—George understood the emotional complexities.
On the final day of their tour, George had an idea to bring some levity to the situation. He arranged for 75 temporary tattoos to be given to the entire tour crew, each one placed on their arm in the exact spot where Miranda had her tattoo. The goal was simple: to break the tension and bring everyone back together.
When Miranda walked in for the group photo, she was stunned to see that nearly 60 crew members, including her dad, were all wearing the same tattoo. It was a heartwarming and humorous way to heal the rift.
Take a look at the video below, which has accumulated 5.5 million views and an outpouring of praise:
Miranda recalls, “The last day of the tour, before the final group photo, George had heard about the whole tattoo issue and sent out for 75 stick-on tattoos. When we took the photo, everyone in the picture—about 60 people—rolled up their sleeves, and they all had the same tattoo, even my dad. So I have to thank George for helping me get back on good terms with my father after I got my horrid tattoo. Thanks, George, for mending our relationship.”
When it comes to mending family bonds between a 22-year-old and her dad, it seems only George Strait could pull it off.
