Donald Trump Criticizes Obama While Claiming He Deserves a Nobel Peace Prize
Video clips of former U.S. President Donald Trump resurfacing online show him insisting that he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, while criticizing Barack Obama’s 2009 award.
At a White House press briefing earlier this year, Trump boldly claimed he had ended “eight wars” and argued that his actions outshone Obama’s achievements. The footage, now going viral on social media, highlights Trump’s ongoing criticism of the former president.

Trump’s Criticism of Obama and the Nobel Prize
In the January video, Trump stated:
“Whether people like Trump or don’t like Trump, I settled eight wars. Big ones. Some going on for 36 years, 32 years, 31 years, 28 years, 25 years. Some just getting ready to start like India and Pakistan. I got it done in rapid order without nuclear weapons.”
He continued, questioning Obama’s Nobel recognition:
“Obama got the Nobel Prize, he had no idea why. He still has no idea. He walks around and says, ‘I got the Nobel Prize’. Why did he get a Nobel Prize? He got it almost immediately upon attaining office and he didn’t do anything and he was a bad president.”
Trump argued that stopping major wars should automatically merit the Nobel Peace Prize, citing alleged praise from Vladimir Putin about two conflicts that had persisted for years. He concluded by emphasizing his humanitarian impact:
“What I care about is saving lives. I’ve saved tens of millions of lives.”
Why Trump Hasn’t Won the Nobel Peace Prize
Despite his claims, Trump has never received the Nobel Peace Prize. Former White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung attributed this to politics:
“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace. President Trump will continue making peace deals around the world, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian.”
Meanwhile, Nobel Committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes clarified the committee’s approach:
“In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, this committee has seen many types of campaigns and media attention. We receive thousands of letters every year, but our decision is based solely on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel, not public campaigns.”
Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize
Barack Obama, now 64, received the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2009, less than nine months into his first term. The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized him for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”, with a focus on nuclear nonproliferation and foreign relations.
Trump, 79, has repeatedly expressed a desire to win the prize himself, arguing that his achievements in ending conflicts worldwide surpass those of his predecessors.
